COSI 2017 Opera Scenes are part of Sulmona’s OVID 2000! celebrations. Sulmona’s native son, Ovido Naso, wrote the epic work Metamorfosen which has been recreated in such works as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady. The COSI 2017 Opera Scenes will hail Ovid with excerpts selected from:
C.W. von Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice
W.A. Mozart: Apollo et Hyacinthus
F. Cavalli: La Calisto
V. Bellini: I Capuleti e i Montecchi
D. Burry: A scene from the upcoming opera, Pymalion (working title).
The COSI Opera Scenes program is designed for undergraduate and graduate singers working to build their auditioning and performing skills, and develop their performance resume. Members of Opera Scenes participate in a performance program designed to meet their individual experience and ability, with a focus on maximizing performance opportunities in our Courtyard Concerts of Italian songs and arias. The Opera Scenes curriculum includes dramatic workshops for arias and auditions, Italian language classes, style and lyric diction coaching, voice lessons, and performer-based bodyworks instruction. The Opera Scenes program includes singing in the chorus in one or both of COSI’s staged operas. All Opera Scenes program members will receive multiple performances through their opera and courtyard concert assignments. COSI Opera Scenes is a thorough and heightening program that puts you at centre stage while also training you for peak performance.
