The Centre for Opera Studies in Italy promotes the development of young singers, pianists and instrumentalists in a stimulating cultural environment with dynamic, internationally renowned faculty and excellent facilities.
You will enjoy the fruits of our program for years to come, as COSI alumni establish themselves in the professional operatic world, and take their place on stages across Canada and around the globe.
You can play a vital role right now, by helping us to keep our program affordable for all of the talented students who deserve an opportunity for superior training and enhanced career development.
The costs of transplanting a professional opera program from Canada to central Italy in the summer are significant, more than what can realistically be recovered from students through tuition fees.
Our generous donors’ support of the COSI Scholarship Fund enables students to maximize their Sulmona experience and achieve their greatest musical potential, free of financial worries. We are terribly aware not only of tuition cost, also but of the fact that our program participants generally give up summer employment in order to further their professional training.
Student tuition fees cover a portion of the costs of five weeks of intensive instruction in music and Italian language, plus a busy performance schedule in towns throughout Abruzzo province, culminating in a closing night gala. In addition, tuition includes accommodations in Sulmona and a daily food allowance. (Students are responsible for their own travel to Italy.)
The Scholarship Fund supports the student experience in two ways: the general fund helps to cover faculty professional fees, thereby reducing tuition costs for all students. The student assistance fund is used to provide scholarships and bursaries to individual students who are distinguished by particular artistic excellence, or hindered by financial need.
Play a lead role in delivering an unforgettable – and affordable – career development experience to these exciting young artists. Please join the COSI family of generous supporters by contributing to our Scholarship Fund for this summer’s program.
We would love to talk to you about how you can help to offer advanced opera training through COSI. Please contact COSI's Artistic Director Darryl Edwards at darryl.edwards@utoronto.ca or (647) 272-6232 for further information.
